9/21/2023 0 Comments Wild animal safari near meWe left the park and came back about an hour afterwards because we went to the zoo which is very close and when we came back the afternoon line was long and slow to re-enter. We then had a packed lunch by the walk trail near the picnic and gift shop area and they were able to feed the big birds through the gate. My youngest liked seeing the animals and having them stick their heads in the window of the car, my oldest felt like Steve Irvine letting the llamas and buffalo and all eat out his bucket and hand. I must say my kids really enjoyed themselves which is hard to find since they are 10yrs apart this was perfect for both. We got there an hour after the park opened and all the animals that were out were ready to eat they gave me a complimentary bucket of feed for mother’s day (that sunday) and we purchased a bucket of feed when we purchased online tickets. We went on a Thurs morning, which helped with traffic initially as we drove 3 1/2 hours from home with a 6yo and a 16yo. However the ride through Safari portion was available. We experienced this adventure, none the less, during the COVID-19 when walking around was prohibited so we were unable to do all of the attractions such as the bird house or the walking trails. ![]() You can get three heads in the stores for half that and then you can enjoy feeding the Giraffe's. Bring your own romaine, it is $5 for 2 pieces. Turn off your air conditioner, your windows are open, that helps prevent overheating. One car (Range Rover) overheated while we were there. It can get very busy and clogged up/slow as folks stop in the middle of the road to feed animals or the animals bock the road. Your car will be filthy trashed with dust, dirt, animal slobber (inside and out) and lots of spilled food and food dust. Military get free buckets of food, so don't buy them, show your ID and you'll get free food. We arrived at 11 am and it took an hour to get into the park with prepaid tickets. Plan on about 1.5 hours for the driving part and about an 1 for the walking zoo animals and giraffes (give or take). ![]() Some of the animals are intimidating like the big texas longhorns, and some are aggressive (they'll try to take the bucket from you, but it is safe, fun and the walking zoo and giraffe feeding after the driving tour is fun. You simply drive through and feed the animals as they come up to your car, or take photos, etc. This is a fun place, it is huge and wide open lands, the animals were very well cared for and had lots and lots of room to roam.
